For many, the Thanksgiving table is sacred. Cherished, tried-and-true family recipes fulfill nostalgic cravings, and there's no budging on testing new dishes. Wine, however, offers an opportunity for exploration. In our latest Tasting Highlights, we survey the world of wine beyond the most traditional of holiday options. For instance, you'll find wines made from regional Portuguese grapes and others made from less well-known varitieties, like Petite Arvine. There's a Pinot Noir, yes, but it's from Argentina's Uco Valley, not Burgundy or California. Even better, these food-friendly wines all earned 90 points or more on our 100-point scale, and all are priced $40 or less.

Distinctive Thanksgiving Reds

The quality of Portuguese table wines has flourished in recent years. While these bottlings may be relatively offbeat for some, ther attractive qualities and prices should lure any curious connoisseur. One example is the stylish Douro Post Scriptum de Chryseia from Prats & Symington. Anchored by the Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca varieties, this complex red uses grapes from the same vineyards as the winery's flagship Chryseia bottling, but at a more accessible price.

This lineup also includes Domaine Nico's Pinot Noir Uco Valley Grand Mère 2022, one of the top scorers, which offers red fruit notes and minerally acidity. Read on to get our score and tasting note for this fantastic Thanksgiving wine and nine others.
