Now, more than ever, American wine consumers are experiencing a white wine boom, and the popularity of Sauvignon Blanc is a leading factor. With versions from California, France, New Zealand and beyond, our latest Tasting Highlights shows why.
Over the past decade in California, Sauvignon Blanc has emerged out from Chardonnay’s shadow, and it's more sought-after than ever. While many winemakers ferment their grapes in stainless steel to maintain the variety’s inherent vibrancy, some are experimenting with barrel-fermenting, a natural progression from traditional California Chardonnay production. For its Sauvignon Blanc Napa-Sonoma Counties 2023, the Spottswoode team uses French oak, small stainless steel barrels, a clay amphora and ceramic and concrete cubes. This has made for a complex and nuanced version, and it's the top scorer in this lineup.
This lineup also includes Loveblock's Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough tee 2023, which is stylish with lemon balm, green tea and marmalade notes. Read on to get our score and full tasting note for this fantastic Sauvignon Blanc and eight others.
