The popularity of Sauvignon Blanc is on the rise in the United States. The grape was once underappreciated but, in recent years, it has been gaining respect as winemakers coax more complexity from it. Using barrel fermentation, lees aging and other techniques, these producers are creating diverse styles sure to please Sauvignon Blanc and white-wine fans. Our latest Tasting Highlights features Sonoma wineries that are doing just that with this key variety.
At Alma De Cattleya, winemaker Bibiana González Rave uses grapes from vineyards throughout Napa and Sonoma to make value-oriented and accessible wines. She aged the 2023, below, on its fine lees in neutral oak for five months, resulting in a polished Sauvignon Blanc with poached pear, lemon curd and mango flavors.
This lineup also includes Aperture's Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County 2023, one of the top scorers, which is distinctive with lemon and floral notes. Read on to get our score and full tasting note for this fantastic California Sauvignon Blanc and seven others.
