2021 was a challenging vintage in Bordeaux, with difficult weather from spring through summer yielding an inconsistent, meager crop. The resulting wines lack the power and concentration of finer years, and are likely to mature swiftly in the cellar; even typically well-structured wines from leading châteaus can open up fairly quickly with air. Despite 2021's challenges, there are still reds at accessible prices that can provide pleasure in their youth or benefit from shorter-term cellaring.
