Restaurant Spotlight: Terzo

A family-run destination brings world-class wine to Minneapolis

Opened in 2013, Terzo is the newest in a group of restaurants by the Broder family, who have owned and operated eateries on the same block in Minneapolis since 1982. Led by Charlie, Thomas, Danny and Molly Broder, the restaurant takes a modern approach to Italian classics.

The wine list, which has held a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence since 2019, showcases top wines from around the world and strives to offer guests great quality and value. Managed by Charlie, who serves as the wine director, the list has since grown to 450 selections, mostly made up of Italian bottlings. Though a large portion of the selection consists of coveted Barolos and Tuscan reds, the list explores regions around the boot, with well-priced selections of northern Italian whites from Friuili Venezia-Guila and Alto Adige, plus a healthy collection of Sicilian bottlings from famed producers like Frank Cornelissen.

Recently, Charlie has started expanding the list to include Champagne, the only non-Italian region represented in the 2,000-bottle cellar. He hopes to continue this foray into the prominent region by adding more grower Champagnes and bottlings from the grand marque houses.

In the kitchen, chef Danny Broder turns out Italian-inspired dishes like tajarin with mushroom ragu, market fish with caponata and beef braised in Barolo wine. Though the menu is mostly seasonal and rotating, dishes like the porchetta sandwich are so popular that they’ve remained on the menu since the beginning.

Like many others, the restaurant is still recovering from the effects of COVID, but the team is hoping to introduce prix-fixe menus along with wine pairings and wine events in the near future. Reservations and walk-ins are available Wednesday through Saturday for dinner.
