Despite being a relatively small winegrowing region, Austria boasts a wide range of wines and styles. In senior editor Bruce Sanderson’s recent tasting report, the country shows great quality from a variety of landmark producers and smaller, younger winemakers. The Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners from the 2019 harvest are excellent—with some classic rated bottlings—while the late-release 2018s are close in quality and more enjoyable now. For reds, the 2017 vintage produced some complex bottlings from Blaufränkisch. Get the full report, plus scores and tasting notes for recommended wines.
